Extending Washing Machine and Dryer Lifespan

  1. Always check that hoses and wires behind dryers and washing machines don’t have any dents, bends, or kinks
  2. Move washers and dryers 4 inches from the wall at minimum to prevent hoses from vending
  3. Regularly wash both machines to prevent mildew and mold
  4. Ensure machines are placed level to reduce tilting or rocking while they run
  5. Always use detergent to proper instructions and measurements to prevent detergent build up
  6. Don’t overload washing machines or dryers with clothes
  7. Always use proper settings based on clothing load size and clothing type
  8. Always read machine instructions to ensure you understand proper machine operation instructions
  9. Clean dryer exhaust vents on an annual basis – at least – to remove lint build up and dryer hose clogs – essential for preventing fires
  10. Professionally clean dryer vents 
  11. Inspect and clean exhaust vent on the outside of your home and remove any dirt, lawn debris, lint, or other particulate matter
  12. Clean lint catchers AT LEAST every 3 months 
  13. Replace exhaust vents with metal rather than plastic
  14. Wipe drums down with a microfiber cloth regularly
